Nyssa ladies knock off La Grande

Nyssa — Genniel Wagstaff scored 15 points and Belinda Escobedo scored two points and grabbed 12 boards to lead Nyssa to a 34-29 win over La Grande in non-league girls basketball action Tuesday on senior night in Nyssa.

After fighting to a 17-17 draw through the first 16 minutes of play, the Bulldogs came out of the locker room with a purpose. Nyssa outscored La Grande 12-4 and took a 29-21 lead into the final stanza.

The Tigers outscored Nyssa 8-5 in the fourth, but could not inch closer.

“We played pretty good defense and we made some outside shots,” Nyssa coach Danny Pratt said. “If we make outside shots, we can win some games. Today, the girls were able to come out and shoot the ball. It was nice for the seniors to win their senior night.”

Megan Bedard led the way with 16 points for the Tigers, who had three players notch field goals.

Amanda Bittinger scored five points and added nine boards, while teammate Saije Froerer added seven points.

Nyssa (11-8 overall, 4-3 league) travels to Vale Friday.
