Betty Anne Burley
June 24, 1937-Jan. 13, 2008

Huntington — Betty Anne Burley, a resident of Huntington, Ore., passed away Jan. 13, 2008, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born June 24,1937, in Parma, Idaho, the daughter of Lawrence and Helen Mager. She had four brothers, Edward, Delbert, Leslie and Joe.

In July of 1955, Betty married Richard D. Scherer Sr., and although they later divorced in 1971, together they had two wonderful sons, Richard Dean Jr. and Randolph Tracy.

Betty worked for many years at the Canyon County Court House as a   criminal and civil court clerk where she is remembered fondly as a great mentor and teacher. She retired September of 1999.

On Aug. 14, 2003, Betty married Dick Burley and together they shared many wonderful memories. They both gained grandchildren through their union, and their family grew, not only numbers, but in love as well.

Betty stated that the last 10 years were the “best years of her life,” and it showed in her smile and her hugs and within her laughter. Betty knew the Lord and encouraged prayers and was an awesome mom, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend.

Betty’s final wishes included cremation, and she wanted her ashes to be placed in Huntington. Later, in the spring, a date will be set to carry out her wishes, and friends and family will be notified.

Betty Burley is survived by her husband, Dick, her son Rick (Lorie) Scherer, mother Helen Keller, brothers Edward Mager and Leslie (Donnis) Mager, sister-in-law and close friend Jan Mager, and, all together, 10 children, 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Mager, brothers Delbert and Joe Mager, her infant daughter, Ann Cornwell, her son, Randolph, and his infant son, Matthew.

The family would like to express their thanks to Heart-N-Home Hospice of Fruitland for helping to care for Betty and to the friends who came to help her through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Cancer Society in her memory.

“And Jesus wept,” John 11:35.

“He knows our burdens and our crosses, Those things that hurt, our trials and our losses. He cares for every soul that cries, God wipes the tears from weeping eyes.” —  Brandt
