Treasure Valley men and women sweep Wenatchee

Wenatchee, Wash. - Coming off a huge loss to Big Bend last Saturday, the Chukar men’s basketball team rebounded nicely Friday in Washington against Wenatchee with a solid 85-76 win.

Treasure Valley Community College opened the game with a solid performance  shooting 43.2 percent from the field (16-of-37), 22.2 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-9) and 4-of-6 charity shots for the 38-33 lead at the break.

TVCC continued playing good basketball in the second half shooting 18-of-32 from the field (56.3 percent) while connecting on  5-of-12 from downtown (41.7 percent) as they outscored Wenatchee 47-43 for the win.

With the win, the Chukars improved to 4-2 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Eastern region and 7-11 overall.

TVCC had five players reach the double digits in scoring with Shane Miller leading the way with 25 points on  9-of-18 from the field and 5-of-9 from three point land.

Contributing to the win for the Chukars was Newt Basey with 15 points and Jason Mumm with 12.

Josh Smith added 11 and Kyle Hart pitched in with 10.

The Chukars outrebounded Wenatchee 41-35, and led in second chance points 14-10.

Wenatchee, however, had big support from its bench and outscored the TVCC bench 36-12.

The game featured three lead changes early with four ties.

Saturday the C hukars took on Yakima (3-3, 15-5).

TVCC came up short against the Yaks losing 91-81.

Miller led TVCC with 32 points shooting 12-of-25 from the field and 4-of-9 from downtown.

Smith pitched in with 20 points hitting nine field goals and two 3-pointers and Hart rounded out the double digit scoring with 11 points.

The TVCC women are back in the winners column following a 70-61 win over the Lady Knights Friday in Wenatchee, Wash.

The Lady Chukars hit seven three pointers, four by Kylie Roberts, in the win.

TVCC battled for a six point lead in the opening half and headed into the break leading 33-27, then in the second half outscored Wenatchee 37-34 for the win.

Wenatchee, still looking for its first NWAACC win, fell to 0-6 in the Eastern Region while the Lady Chukars moved to 2-4 in the East and are now 5-14 overall.

Leading TVCC’s offensive output was Roberts with 20 points, Ashlie MacFarlane was one point off the lead with 19 points shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line.

Hope Williams knocked out 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and draining a long ball.

As a team,the Lady Chukars shot 49.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. The two squads equalled each other’s effort on the boards with 40 apiece.

Saturday, the TVCC women took on Yakima, who is coming off a throttling of Blue Mountain 87-37.

TVCC took their game against Yakima on the chin, as the Lady Yaks throttled the Chukars by the score of 100-45.

Roberts led TVCC in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the field and nailing four 3-pointers, while Williams added 14 points.

Both the men and the women will be in action again Wednesday at Blue Mountain.  

The women will tip off at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.
