Celebrating ‘School Board Recognition Month’

The Ontario School District is joining schools throughout the nation in celebrating January as “School Board Recognition Month.” Serving on our local school board are: Dr. John Phillips (seven years), Dr. Ann Easly-DeBisschop (three years), Cliff Bentz (three years), Kathie Collins (one year) and Nancy Alvarado (one year).
These men and women volunteer countless hours of time not only to help see that our 2,700 students are getting the best education possible, but also to serve as the corporate board of directors for one of our community’s largest employers, Ontario School District. Too often the efforts of school board members go unrecognized and unrewarded.
The key work of the 8C Board of Directors is to support Ontario School District in:
Creating a vision for what we want our school district to become and how we will focus on student achievement as our top priority;
Establishing standards;
Ensuring assessment to determine if we are achieving our goals;
Being accountable for the outcomes of decisions and actions;
Determining how the district’s resources should be used;
Creating a safe and orderly climate where students can learn and teachers can teach;
Forming collaborative relationships with others in our community; and
Highlighting the district’s continuous improvement.
Throughout this month our students and employees will be recognizing the board for their dedication and commitment to Ontario students. The regular board meeting, which took place Thursday, included presentations by our schools to thank the 8C School Board members for their service and dedication.
Even though we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation for school board members, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort.
They are dedicated individuals who are committed to improving student achievement and bringing about the best for all Ontario School District students.
