Nyssa
The Nyssa Lady Bulldogs didn’t need a ton of points to send the visiting Melba Lady Mustangs packing with a loss in Friday’s 32-27 win. In a game that was highlighted by low scoring, the Lady Bulldogs battled back in the final quarter to pull out the win.
Nyssa led by two points after the first quarter of play 9-7, but in the second stanza only scored three points and Melba took advantage of the Bulldog drought and piled up eight to their total to take the lead at the break, 17-12.
In the third frame, both teams added seven points to the score board and the final quarter began with Melba looking at stealing a road win leading 24-19.
But then the Bulldogs came off the porch and bit the Mustangs with 13 fourth quarter points for the come-from-behind 32-27 win.
With the win Nyssa improved to 6-4 on the season and will be looking for win No. 7 Tuesday when the La Grande Tigers come to town.
Nyssa had a balanced scoring attack with Genniel Wagstaff leading the way with seven points and Saije Froerer, Katie Booth and Amanda Bittinger each logging six points.
Head coach Danny Pratt said they were able to get Melba to expand its zone which allowed them to get the ball inside to Froerer and Booth.
