PORTLAND (AP) — An Oregon state agency says it has decided not to hand out forms for gay people to register for domestic partnerships allowed under a new state law. A federal judge in Portland last week blocked the law until he hears arguments on an attempt to put it to a referendum in November.
The state Department of Human Services said Monday that if the courts eventually allow the law to go into effect, there might be questions about the validity of registration forms people would have signed before the law becomes effective. County clerks have been advised to follow the department’s lead. A hearing on the challenge to the domestic partnership law is scheduled Feb. 1.
