Fireworks for new year

A New Year’s Eve fireworks display will take place at 7 p.m. Monday in Vale.

Senior center hosts New Year’s Eve dance

The Payette Senior Center will host a New Year’s Eve dance from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, at the center, 137 N. Main St. Dinner will be provided. The cost is $6, $5 for adults  60 and older.

Nyssa senior citizen news

The Nyssa Senior Citizens will be having a meeting at 11 a.m. Jan. 9. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a program, and at noon, a potluck — bring a dish to share or pay $3 per person. Enjoy Heartfelt Country Music at 7 p.m. Jan. 18. Seniors will have coffee and pie for sale. A foot clinic will take place Jan. 22. For an appointment, please call Peggy at (541) 372-2549. Another meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 23, with an 11:30 a.m. program and a potluck at noon. A raffle is taking place for a hand crocheted table cloth donated by a member. Teacher sorority meeting planned

Boy Scouts offer Christmas tree removal

Ontario

Boy Scout Troop 400 is performing its annual Christmas tree pickup. The stand should be removed from the tree, and the tree should be placed near the curb by 9 a.m. Jan. 12. Donations are gladly accepted and will help fund scouting activities and summer camp. For tree pickup reservations, or more information, please call (541) 889-2302.

Girls night out planned

ONTARIO

Girls Night Out invites all interested women to its annual health, craft and beauty fair and dinner buffet at 6 p.m., Jan. 8 at the Sizzler in Ontario. Anyone interested in displaying items or for more information, contact Carolyn at (541) 889-7198.

Art fund-raiser fueled by Christmas trees

Ontario

Members of The House That Art Built have a goal of providing free art for kids. To help fund this dream, the first Christmas tree firing pit party is scheduled for Feb. 2. Local potters will be donating their wares for an all-night pit firing fueled by donated Christmas trees. The finished pots will be sold by silent auction and on the Internet. The money raised will support the Kids & Art Program, scheduled to begin this summer.

U of I Extension to offer ‘Living on the Land’

classes

Fruitland, Emmett, Caldwell

The University of Idaho Extension is putting on a class series, “Living on the Land — Stewardship for Small Acreages.” The cost is $275 per two people. Evening classes will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Caldwell and Fruitland. Afternoon classes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. will be available in Emmett. The series runs from January to May.
