Oregon health director resigns
SALEM (AP) — Oregon’s public health director, Dr. Susan Allan, has resigned.
The Oregon Department of Human Services announced Thursday that Allan is leaving the job in February after nearly three years to join her husband in Seattle.
Dr. Bruce Goldberg, director of the state agency, said the departure was a great loss for the state.
‘‘Dr. Allan has brought a much-needed focus on strengthening and modernizing the state’s public health programs,’’ Goldberg said.
He commended her for improving the state’s emergency preparedness, updating public health laws, increasing the number of school-based health clinics and improving the state’s ability to ensure safe drinking water.
Allan is a medical doctor but also holds a law degree and a master’s degree in public health. She previously directed public health services for the Arlington County, Va., Department of Human Services where she helped oversee the response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Michael Skeels, director of the Oregon Public Health Laboratory, is Allan’s interim successor. |
