OREGON - Debate boils over about Oceanside strip club
OCEANSIDE (AP) — The quaint Oregon coastal town of Oceanside is home to a restaurant, a coffee shop, a community center, a post office and now, a strip club.
That last one is definitely out of place in the quiet hamlet, and neighbors there aren’t happy at all.
But Slawomir ‘’Sam’’ Piskorski, the owner of the club, said the exotic dancers there are a last resort, after residents have continued a boycott of his establishment that dates to the previous owner.
Eastern Oregon viewers want in-state TV news
PENDLETON (AP) — Eastern Oregon TV viewers who get their signals from satellites want their news and weather from Oregon, not neighboring states.
Oregon’s two U.S. senators, Republican Gordon Smith and Democrat Ron Wyden, say they’ll try to get the Congress to change a provision that limits subscribers in Wallowa, Grant, Umatilla and Malheur counties to broadcasts from stations in Idaho or Washington.
Congress implemented a similar provision for cable subscribers in 2004. Smith and Wyden introduced their bill last week.

Committee’s proposals for E. Snake River Aquifer expensive
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A committee studying ways to solve low-water problems in the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer says any solution will be costly.
Proposals include enlarging Minidoka Dam, converting irrigation district groundwater pumps to surface water, buying out water rights and aquifer recharges. Committee members say any solutions likely will cost more than $100 million.
$600,000 Powerball ticket sold in Kootenai County
BOISE (AP) — The Idaho Lottery says someone who bought a Powerball ticket in Kootenai County won $600,000. The ticket matched all five numbers but not the Powerball in Saturday night’s $15 million drawing in the multistate lottery.
Lottery Director Jeff Anderson says the ticket had a Powerplay option, tripling its normal $200,000 payout.
The winning numbers were 22, 37, 47, 48, 50 and the Powerball was 17.
Anderson says the Lottery’s Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle has sold out all 250,000 tickets, and no additional tickets will be sold. The winner will be picked New Year’s Eve.
