Nyssa - It was raining threes in Nyssa Tuesday night.
Cole Valley drained 10 3-pointers and overcame an 8-point first quarter deficit to defeat Nyssa 58-48 in non-league boys basketball action in Nyssa.
The Chargers had eight different players hit the scoresheet and used a 29-17 second half run to seal the win. The story of the game was the passing game for Cole Valley as they notched 21 assists on their 23 field goals. Nyssa on the other hand had only four assists and committed 21 turnovers.
Seth Glenn connected on eight field goals for a game-high 18 points and teammate Josh DeAnda added 12 points for Nyssa, which had four players score more than three field goals.
“Right now we have no ball movement,” Nyssa head coach Gabe Fuentes said. “We only had four assists and with that they’re not giving teammates an opportunity to score buckets.
Nyssa (0-5 overall) next hosts Mac-Hi Thursday.
Fruitland 78, Baker 70
Baker
The Fruitland boys basketball team earned themselves a great road-win over defending 3A state champion Baker on Tuesday, beating them 78-70. The Griz now hold a 3-2 record for the season.
Baker outscored the Grizzlies in the first period, but after the start of the second, Baker lost the lead and never caught back up as Fruitland continued to put points on the board.
“The game was really balanced and our guys stepped up and scored, and it was a big night for a lot of different guys,” Fruitland boys basketball coach Mike Fitch said. “It’s not an easy place to play and to defeat the defending state champs on their own floor was pretty good.”
Road wins are always tough and, with many of Baker’s state champ players returning from last year’s team, the win was extra special for the Griz. “I’m really proud at how the boys played,” Fitch said.
Baker’s Richards scored 23 points on the night but it was not enough to overcome Fruitland’s incessant scoring. Griz Jordan Felgenhauer had much to do with that with his 100 percent from the foul line, going 3-3, and his five from the field for 15 total on the night. Ty Pena added 12 and Devon DeCroo contributed 11, followed by Andrew Dahle’s 10 points.
Fruitland will get another chance to test its road-worthiness next Friday when it visits Melba.
Adrian 66, Harper 57
Harper
Maurus Hope scored 18 points, Kyle Dondero added 17 and George Ellsworth chipped in 16 to lead the Adrian Antelopes to the 66-57 win over Harper in High Desert League boys basketball action Tuesday in Harper.
Adrian used its pressure defense and hot first half shooting to stake themselves to a 31-20 halftime lead and continued the run in the third quarter.
Adrian went on a 17-11 third quarter run and built a 48-31 lead heading into the final stanza. Harper outscored Adrian 26-18 in the fourth quarter to make the score respectable late.
“We had a lot of trouble with turnovers in the first half. They (Adrian) had good pressure defensively and we had trouble handling it,” Harper head coach Tyler Shafer said. “With the steals, they had a good transition game going and they got us with that. We played well and scrapped in the fourth quarter, but it was just a little too late.”
Harper was led by Jan Seiler who scored 24 points, and Ron Weatherby added 12 points and eight boards for the Hornets, who connected on 22 field goals in the game.
Harper (2-2 overall, 1-1 League) next travels to Crane Friday.

Payette 51, McCall 41
Payette
In a game decided by 10 points, it was the second quarter that proved to make the difference for the Payette Lady Pirates as they defeated McCall 51-41 in Snake River Valley Conference action.
Both teams battled to an eight-all tie after the first eight-minutes of play. Payette turned up the heat in the second frame with 19 points, while McCall slipped behind with a 10 point effort, giving the Pirates a 27- 18 lead at recess.
In the third quarter the two squads were back into the battle mode with Payette ending the quarter just two points better than McCall, but had increased its lead to 11 points, 39- 28.
In the final frame McCall managed to outscore Payette, but only by a point and left home with the 10 point loss.
Payette was led by Gross with 19 points, and was the only Lady Pirate to reach double-digit scoring, but Payette had enough contributions from its other members to hold off a late charge by the Lady Vandels.
“We built a decent first half lead and they (McCall) came back. McCall cut our lead down to three points,” Payette head coach John Kowwatsch said. “The opportunity was there for us to fold, but they showed charatcer and pulled it out. They are a different team from this year to last year they didn’t give up.”
McCall’s top scorer was Weeks, who also logged 19 points in the loss.
The win improved Payette’s record to 4-6 overall 1-0 in the SRV. Payette will travel to Weiser Friday for another SRV matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
New Plymouth 41, Nampa Christian 20
Nampa
New Plymouth girls are on a roll as they continue to pile up victories in the win column. The Pilgrims’ latest victim, was the Nampa Christian Trojans. New Plymouth took advantage of a huge second half, outscoring Nampa Christian 31-10 for the 21-point victory, 41-20.
New Plymouth was led by a cast of contributers with Shianne Edmunson leading the charge with 10 points, and Lauren Arnzen and Alisha Shipman each logging six points in the win.
“We had a rough time shooting in the first half and the girls did good in the second half,” New Plymouth head coach Denise Oliver said. “They (Nampa Christian) will get better. They are tall and they have some good athletes. They are just a young team”.
Oliver said she told her team to drive the ball to the basket, after their poor first half of play.
The Pilgrim defense forced 26 Trojan turnovers in their win. New Plymouth will take their winning ways to Parma Friday to see if they can continue to log victories. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
