Roche’s shot with 49 second left, gives Panthers 49-47 win

Weiser - Fans at Tom Falash Gymnasium in Weiser sure got their money’s worth Saturday.
They got four quarters and two overtime’s worth of action.
Parma’s Kali Roche nailed a baseline jumper with 49 seconds left, and the Parma Panthers kept its undefeated record in tact with a 49-47 double-overtime win over Weiser in non-league girls basketball action in Weiser.
Weiser had its fair share of chances late, but couldn’t cash them in.
With 27 seconds left in the game, Weiser’s Hallie Hopkins missed a short jumper, and after two missed free throws by Parma’s Whitney Rohrbacher, Weiser had one last possession.
After two passes, Karli McKie had the ball at midcourt, pumped faked a shot and took one too many steps and was called for the traveling violation with six seconds left in the contest.
Throughout the game, the Wolverines were facing an uphill climb and didn’t capture its first lead until the 2:48 mark of the second overtime session.
Weiser battled back from a 14-point first half deficit, and did with hustle and some fast break points.
After one quarter of play, the Wolverines were down 14-5 and went on a 6-0 run to creep its way back to a 20-15 halftime deficit.
A Mary Lancaster steal and layup along with a Anne Hafer layup brought the Wolverines to within 22-19 at the 2:43 mark of the third stanza.
But Roche capped a Panther 7-0 run to give Parma 29-19 lead after 24 minutes of play. Weiser fought all the way back, and got a rebound and a putback by Hafer to tie things up at 38-38 with 2:06 left, but both teams squandered chances to win game in regulation.
Parma went 0-of-6 from the line late, and Whitney Rohrbacher missed two free throws giving Weiser the ball. Hafer then missed a layup and Roche missed two free throws and with 40 seconds left, Weiser’s Ana Overgaard misfired on two free throws.
Overgaard had one last chance to redeem herself but could not get a shot off in time and the game went into the first overtime.
Weiser went 16-of-from the field and made good on 9-of-16 free throw attempts, while Parma made 14-of-47 field goals and went 17-of-28 from the stripe.
Roche led all scorers with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Breanna Stell had 113 points, three assists and two steals. Weiser was led by Overgaard, who had 13 points and four boards.
