Ontario Tigers win GOL title
Stewart finds paydirt five times in 50-0 blowout over La Grande

La Grande - The tables have been run, and the Ontario Tigers have captured the Greater Oregon League title and wrapped up the regular season perfect at 10-0.

The feat was accomplished in La Grande with a 50-0 blanking of the La Grande Tigers Friday.

Ontario jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter which was sparked by the Tiger defense. D.J. Clayton got the Tigers on the scoreboard at the 11:35 mark when he sacked La Grande’s quarterback Anthony Nice in the end zone for the two point score.

Seventeen seconds later, the Tigers were on the board again, when Loren Stewart rumbled off a 53-yard score to give the Tigers an 8-0 lead.  Jacob Haueter added the extra point and Ontario led 9-0.

Stewart then added a 4-yard run a minute and a half later, Haueter’s kick was true, and Ontario led 16-0.

The Tigers added 13 more points in the second frame,  both by Jake Turner. The first came on a 52-yard scamper, and the second came on a 9-yard pass from Bryson Sap, and Ontario took a 29-0 lead into the locker room at the break.

Things did not get any better for La Grande in the second half as the Tigers posted 21 more points in the third quarter to  seal the deal.

The Tigers first score of the second half came by way of Stewart on a 11-yard pass from Sap, then Stewart added his fourth score of the game on a five yard tip-toe to paydirt. At the 5:47 mark, Stewart was at it again, and this score came on a 56-yard punt return to the end zone.

On the night, Stewart rushed 10 times for 115 yards, Turner added 66 yards on five carries.  Sap went 8-of-12 for 133 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.

On the year, Sap has not thrown a single interception in 78 attempts. He has 11 touchdowns and 717 yards. For the game, the Tigers amassed 349 yards of total offense and held La Grande to 125 yards.

Ontario dominated in all the statistical categories as well as on the field.  The Tigers picked up 13 first downs and only had four penalties for 36 yards.

“We came out and scored quickly, which was key for us,” Ontario head football coach Randy Waite said. “Our defense got things started for us with the safety.”

Ontario will get a week off, before entering the Oregon 4A state football playoffs where they will host Henley.

The game is slated for at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
