ONTARIO - Saturday, merchants in downtown Ontario will hold their annual fall event, “Octoberfaire,” starting early at 7 a.m. with the Elks Breakfast, and continuing through 5 p.m.
The family event features a wide variety of vendors, activities and live music on and around three blocks of South Oregon Street.
That portion of South Oregon Street will be blocked off to traffic during the event.
Signup for the poker run starts at 9 a.m. and continues through 11 a.m. at the information booth, situated on South Oregon, between Second and Third avenues.
The information booth and vendors will be set up in the street.
Vendors will open at 10 a.m., and there will be food, arts and crafts, beauty aids and products made in Oregon and Idaho.
“We’re still adding stuff,” Jim Griffith, owner of Radio Shack and president of the Downtown Merchants Association, said. “It should be a great event.”
The weather is supposed to be pleasant, Griffith said — a little cloudy but not rainy.
“That’s good,” he said.
Also starting at 10 a.m. will be the carnival rides in the downtown park — across from Radio Shack — a motorcycle show and shine and antique roadshow at the railroad depot. The roadshow has a $1 admission.
There will be motorcycle games and a loud pipe contest from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A beer garden will be open at South Oregon and Southeast Second Avenue and operate until 5 p.m., and raffle drawings will start at 11 a.m. and continue every15 minutes until 5 p.m.
People with questions can stop at the information booth.
Poker run hands will need to be turned in at the information booth from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Live music begins at 11 a.m. and features bluegrass music, followed by punk/reggae at 2 p.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. with an ‘80s rock band, playing favorite hits.
Judging of the scarecrow contest will take place from 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Other activities for children will be a bicycle rodeo, a ping pong ball drop for ages 6 and under at 11 a.m. and for ages 7 to 10 at 1 p.m.
This will be held near the intersection of First Avenue and South Oregon.
