IDAHO - Grizzly shot in northern Idaho likely migrated from Selkirk range
LEWISTON (AP) — Federal wildlife officials say a grizzly bear shot and killed by a hunter last month in north-central Idaho likely migrated south from the Selkirk Mountains.
State and federal officials say DNA from the 400-pound bear that was shot Sept. 3 was compared with samples from bears in 15 other areas, but matched best with bears from the Selkirks.

Mental health provider cuts care for children
PORTLAND (AP) — Trillium Family Services, Oregon’s largest provider of children’s mental health care, said it will reduce staff statewide and close its inpatient and outpatient programs in Bend. The Portland-based nonprofit will serve 3,500 mentally ill children in the next year, which is less than half the number it served last year, The Oregonian newspaper reported. State officials said children no longer served by Trillium will likely be served by another provider.

Arming for war: Combat more expensive than World War II
WASHINGTON (AP) — As official Washington argues over the spiraling price of the war in Iraq, consider this: Outfitting a soldier for battle costs a hundred times more now than it did in World War II. It was $170 then, is about $17,500 now and could be an estimated $28,000 to $60,000 by the middle of the next decade.
Now, the Pentagon spends tens of billions of dollars annually to protect troops and make them more lethal on the battlefield. See story Page A3.

Performance of ‘Shakespeare (Abridged)’ comedy show canned
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — It was supposed to be a two-hour Shakespearean comedy show attended by 700 sixth- through 12th-graders. But it was not to be. About 40 minutes into a touring company’s performance of ‘‘The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),’’ a Higley Unified School District official halted the show Monday at a performing arts center.
‘‘We stopped the show because we feel that this was inappropriate,’’ said Tara Kissane, the district’s director of visual and performing arts.
