Ontario volleyball sweeps Mac-Hi

Milton-Freewater - The Ontario volleyball team kicked off Greater Oregon League play with a resounding three game sweep over Mac-Hi Saturday.
The Lady Tigers left nothing to chance winning the opener 25-13 and kept the positives going with a 25-12 win in the second game. Ontario finally landed the knockout blow with a 25-12 win in the decisive third game.
“We had a fair night from the service line,” Ontario head coach Rod Williams said. “Stephanie O’Connor and Britany Babcock both knocked down a few aces. Stephanie (O’Connor) and Chelsea Skeen were strong from the attack line, logging most of our kills and Ashley Plaza was our dig leader.”
Ontario (4-3 overall, 1-0 GOL) next travels to La Grande for the La Grande volleyball tournament starting Saturday.
Jordan Valley
The Jordan Valley volleyball team split over the weekend, losing to Greenleaf Friends Academy and taking a 3-0 sweep over Wilder Saturday in non-league volleyball action.
Friday, the Mustangs lost a heartbreaking five game match against the Grizzlies, taking the opener 25-22.
Greenleaf came back and evened things up with a 25-22 win and Jordan Valley rebounded with a 25-21 win in the third game.
The Grizzlies forced a tie-breaker after beating Jordan Valley 25-17 in the fourth game and clinched the match with a 15-9 win in the fifth game.
Kayla Cuvelier led the way with 11 kills, seven blocks and two digs, while teammate Nickie Naegle had an all-around game with 19 assists, four kills, four digs and a block.
Athena Beck with had eight kills, Catie Kershner had 21 assist and Emma Johnson added two digs for the Mustangs.
In the nightcap, The Mustangs had no problem at all with the Wildcats taking the match in three straight games, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22.
Kershner led the way with 15 assists, two kills and a dig, while teammate Jessie White added eight kills, two blocks and a dig.
“I was very proud of them and this kind of a game gives them more confidence on what they are able to do,” Jordan Valley head coach Jacque Naegle said. “The girls did a great job of just staying with something and finishing it out the best they could. I was proud of how the girls handled themselves and pushed to finish the day on a positive note. They just keep getting stronger not only as individual players but as a team. They are a great bunch of young ladies all 14 of them.”
Beck with had six kills, Elisa Eiguren chipped in five kills and Naegle added 13 assists, three digs and two kills.
Jordan Valley (5-2 overall, 3-0 High Desert League) next travels to Prairie City Friday.
