New Plymouth sweeps Homedale



New Plymouth - Sienna Edmunson had four kills, four blocks and four service aces to lead the New Plymouth volleyball team to the three game sweep of Homedale Thursday in nonleague action in New Plymouth.

The Pilgrims jumped out the gates with a 25-20 win in the opener and kept the roll going with a 25-14 win in the second game.

The Trojans couldn’t back on track and were quickly dispatched by New Plymouth, which won the clincher 25-15.

Shianne Edmunson tallied nine kills, Rebecca McConaha chipped in 17 digs and Kayla Spain added 12 assists.

New Plymouth (1-1) next travels to Vale Tuesday for a 4 p.m. start .

Fruitland

The Fruitland volleyball squad completely dominated the Nampa Christian Trojans winning in three straight games Thursday in nonleague action in Fruitland.

Michelle Meine had 10 kills, Melissa Pennecard added 10 assists and Necia Dalley chipped in six blocks for the Grizzlies, who won the opening game 25-17.

In the second game, Fruitland continued its run with a 25-18 win and sent the Trojans packing with a 25-10 win in the decisive third game.

Kylee Nawahine totaled three assists and teammate Bailie Olson had six digs.

Fruitland (1-0 overall) next travels to Baker Tuesday with a 5 p.m. first serve.

Payette

The Melba Mustangs just had too much for Payette as they pulled off a thrilling four game win Thursday in nonleague action in Payette.

Melba won the opener 25-16, before the Pirates evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 win.

The Mustangs completed the match with a 25-13 win in the third game and chalked up the match with a 25-20 win in the decisive fourth game.

Melba’s Cara Duckworth racked up 10 kills, Michelle Kirkness had 17 assists and teammate Cailey Brinkerhoff chipped in a team-leading 10 digs.

Payette was led by standout Shelbi King, who had seven kills, while teammate Jordan Cazier had 18 digs and four blocks.

Calee White enjoyed a solid night from the service line with 11 service points and she also added a team-leading nine helpers.

The loss left Payette head coach Suzie Burley a little frustrated, but she said the team has taken significant strides early on.

“Its just the little things,” Burley said. “We get a lead, then we play it safe instead of finishing. We’re still learning to play around each other. I’m definitely seeing improvement. Everything is a step in the right direction.”

Payette (0-1 overall) next travels to Melba Thursday in 7 p.m. rematch.

Council

The Council Lumberjacks started the regular season with a bang, sweeping Meadows Valley 25-18, 25-11, 25-5 in three straight games Thursday in Council.

Sarah Farrar led the way with six kills, Emma George chipped in eight digs and McKinna Murphy added 14 assists and seven service aces.

“Our passing looked great,” Council head coach Amy Shumway said. “We were setting up the ball really well. The sets were so good that we were getting some great hits off of them.

They worked really well as a team and fundamentally, they were sound.”

Addie Edmunson had five kills, Olivia McDaniel chipped in four kills and Mary Lakey racked up 20 assists.

Council (1-0 overall) next hosts Tri-Valley Thursday for a 7:15 p.m. start.

Huntington

The Jordan Valley volleyball team started the season off on the right foot with a four game win over High Desert League foe Huntington Friday in Jordan Valley.

The Mustangs won the opener 25-8 and kept the momentum going with a 25-11 win in the second game.

The Locomotives chipped away and won the third game 25-11 before Jordan Valley clinched the match with a 25-8 win in the fourth game.

Kayla Cuvelier led the way with six kills, while teammates Jessie White and Kelsey Prescott chipped in four kills apiece. Catie Kershner had a kill and five assists and Nickie Naegle had an all-around game with 10 assists, two kills and two digs.

“I was pretty satisfied with the way the more experienced players played,” Jordan Valley head coach Jacque Naegle said. “We played fairly solid all the way around and that is a good way to start.”

Jordan Valley (1-0 overall) next hosts Wilder Friday.
