Payette board OKs budget

PAYETTE - Great team work and good, informative work sessions made Payette’s 2008 fiscal year budget easy this year, Payette Mayor Doug Henderson said.

“I want to thank the city officials and department heads for their great collaboration on this year’s budget,” Henderson said. “The hard work paid off, in the positive.”

Henderson said he thinks every year, the teamwork in the city paid off. He said the teamwork continually grows year after year.

A public hearing was held before the City Council’s regular meeting Monday night.

No one from the public testified in the meeting and Payette City Treasurer Kellie McCombs gave a brief synopsis on the 2008 budget.

McCombs said this year’s budget hearing was the shortest budget hearing she can remember.

In the City Council’s regular meeting, the budget was passed on it’s first reading.

“I see that this budget has foregone monies in it,” Payette City Councilwoman Vallery Klitch said. “I am only passing this on the notion that the foregone monies all go into the South Ninth Street project.”

Henderson reassured Klitch saying that was the intent of the council.

“The council is very adamant about that money going to that project,” McCombs said. “That’s the purpose of the council in the future.”

Councilman Jeff Williams said he wanted to be reassured that the project would be finished this fiscal year. He said he didn’t want to sit on it for the next year.

“The project is supposed to be started in the spring,” Henderson said.

Henderson and McCombs said they are both glad this year’s budget went smoothly. They said the good press, team work and all the work sessions made this year easier to work with. The next Payette City Council meeting will be held Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., which is a Tuesday, because of the Labor Day holiday.
