HUNTINGTON, Utah (AP) — Safety experts believe that boring a hole and sending a rescue capsule down into a coal mine where six men have been trapped for two weeks is impossible because the mountain is unstable and the miners are so far underground, a lawyer for the mine company said Monday.
‘‘It’s an unsafe activity,’’ said Murray Energy Corp. lawyer Chris Van Bever, whose comments came a day after family members of the miners pleaded for rescue efforts to continue.

shooting at Klamath County apartment
KLAMATH FALLS(AP) — Three people were shot, two fatally, at a Klamath County apartment Sunday, said David Groff, chief deputy district attorney.
Groff said Marissa Lynn Orlow, 20, died at the scene. David Joshua Kitts, 22, and his wife, Melissa Ann Kitts, 18, were taken to a hospital in Klamath Falls, where David Kitts later died. Melissa Kitts was later transported to an out-of-town hospital.
No arrests have been made. Groff said police were searching for Matthew Avina-Norris, 22.
Police responded to the apartment outside the Klamath Falls city limits at about 7 a.m. Groff said he believes one of the victims and a neighbor both called 911.

Idaho governor orders evacuation as wildfire
advances
BOISE (AP) — The governor on Sunday ordered the residents of about 100 homes in central Idaho to evacuate because of a fast-moving wildfire driven by high winds that grounded air tankers. The order by Gov. C.L. ‘‘Butch’’ Otter came when the Castle Rock Fire, near Ketchum, spread over a ridge and reached a south-facing slope where fire officials expected it to advance rapidly, fire spokesman David Olson said.
‘‘The fire is up above the ridge where the homes are,’’ Olson said.
He said residents of more than 200 other homes were also advised to evacuate, along with their livestock.
‘‘I think people are generally worried in this area,’’ Olson said. ‘‘They can see fire nearby. ’’
