The gift shop at Holy Rosary Medical Center is extending its hours to include Saturdays. The shop’s Saturday hours will be 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
EOCIL requests
donations for yard sale

The Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living (EOCIL) will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the EOCIL office, 1021 S.W. Fifth Ave., in Ontario.
The center is accepting donations for the sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. now through Sept. 5 at the office. The center is also willing to pick up donations.

Straight Shooters pool tournament slated
New Plymouth
There will be a Senior Citizens Straight Shooters pool tournament at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the New Plymouth Senior Center, 126 N. Plymouth Ave.
Participants (ladies and gentlemen) must be 60 years or older.
Registration is $5 per participant and preregistration is requested by Monday, Aug. 27.

Recovery month
planning meeting scheduled

There will be a recovery planning meeting from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Commission for Family and Children/Justice Court building.
The meeting will be used for the planning of “Hands Around the Park for Recovery” on Sept. 26 at Lions Park, in Ontario. This is a community event so all hands and ideas are welcome.
Donations are also needed for the event.

Teacher Appreciation Day planned at Staples

Staples, the world’s largest office products company, wants to make it easy for teachers to have the tools they need to do their job by hosting a Teacher Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Ontario Staples store.
The first 200 teachers visiting the store will receive a Staples polybinder that will include a legal pad, paper clips, highlighters and index flags, among other back-to-school accessories and discount coupons. Teachers will also have the opportunity to preview new products, learn more about the Staples Copy & Print Center and enroll their school in Recycle for Education (www.staplesrecyclefored.com), a program that has raised more than $2 million for schools nationwide.
Owyhee Small Grant Program opens

The Owyhee Watershed Council is proud to announce the opening of our 2007 to 2009 Owyhee Small Grant Program.
This program is now available to address resource concerns in the Oregon portion of the Owyhee River Basin and portions of the Mid-Snake Succor Subbasin (again, Oregon only).
The Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) plans to allocate $100,000 of State Lottery funds for small watershed restoration projects within the Owyhee Watershed for this two-year period.
The Owyhee Small Grant Team will review and approve project applications. Priority consideration will be given to projects addressing local water quality concerns. Projects that address water quantity, rangeland health, soil condition, AFO/CAFO waste management and wildlife concerns are also eligible for funding. Funding decisions will be based on an objective scoring criterion using the identified local priorities.
Applications are now being accepted on a continuous basis with the following cut-off dates: Nov. 30, March 28, 2008, July 30, 2008, Nov. 30, 2008 and March 30, 2009 (dates are subject to change depending on the number of applications received and availability of funds). Applications will only be reviewed while funds are still available, so applicants are urged to apply early.
