OREGON - State urges consumers to check for possible faulty tires
PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers is urging motorists to check their cars for Chinese-made tires that may be faulty. In June, a U.S. tire importer reported to federal officials that the tires may not meet standard requirements. An estimated 450,000 tires that it brought from China and sold in the United States are estimated to be at risk. However, the Union, N.J.-based importer, Foreign Tire Sales Inc., and the Chinese government have denied that the tires are dangerous.
Settlement proposed in Ore. middle school
harassment case
McMINNVILLE (AP) — Two boys facing criminal charges after they were accused of swatting girls on their bottoms and poking their breasts at their middle school could avoid a trial and a criminal record if everybody involved can reach a legal agreement called a ‘‘civil compromise,’’ attorneys said Friday. The case of Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison, both 13, has attracted national media attention and an outpouring of public support for their families in what critics have called overzealous prosecution by Yamhill County District Attorney Bradley Berry.

Man accused of selling drugs out of ice cream truck
NEW YORK (AP) — An ice cream truck parked in front of a junior high school was offering up cocaine and marijuana along with the soft serve, police said. A police search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded pistol and drugs, police said Friday after arresting 26-year-old Jermaine Jordan on charges including criminal possession of a weapon near a school and criminal sale of a controlled substance near a school.
There was no listed number at Jordan’s address, and it was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.
The school, J.H.S. 008, is in Queens.
