| Work began Saturday to try and control a 26,000-acre wildfire outside of Weiser. |
The fire started Friday afternoon after an area dry lightning storm, and the Weiser Rural Fire Department responded around 6 p.m. Saturday when the flames crossed into their fire district, Weiser Rural Fire Chief Nate Marvin said Sunday.
Over the weekend, crews from Fruitland, Payette, Ontario, Gem County, Wilder, Homedale, Cambridge and Vale responded to the fire, Marvin said, sending more than 50 firefighters to assist with the fire.
Ten firefighters from Weiser Rural also responded to a smaller fire on the west side of Rock Creek Road from 8:30 a.m. until midnight Saturday, Marvin said. Both fires burned in grass and sagebrush areas.
