Boise - The U-18 Field of Dreams softball team dropped into the loser’s bracket of the Boise Blast Shootout Saturday at Ann Morrison Park in Boise after losing its first game of the tournament.
The team started off in pool play Saturday against the Sliders out of Utah, but ran into some tough pitching as they were shut out 5-0.
They managed to get on the scoreboard in the second game of the day against the Boise Blast but came up short on the offensive end, scoring just once and losing a pitcher’s duel 3-1.
Following the pair of losses, the Field of Dreams was set as the No. 4 seed coming out of pool play, and were placed in a rematch against the Sliders.
The Field of Dreams was out for revenge, but ran into trouble right out of the gate, as the Sliders scored six runs in the top of the first inning.
The Sliders continued to add on throughout the game, finishing off the Field of Dreams in four innings 14-0.
Abby Bowcott earned the win on the mound for the Sliders, while Jordan Rowan took the loss.
Despite the rocky start to the tournament, the Field of Dreams still have a chance to get back into contention, and head coach Rick Moeller said that’s what they hope to do.
“The first two games weren’t that bad,” he said, adding, however, that the team didn’t come mentally prepared to play in the late game. “It’s a shame, but we’re not done yet. You never give up until it’s over.”
The Field of Dreams looked to get back into contention today, as they faced the loser of the Boise Blast and the Utah Twisters in an elimination game at 8 a.m. at Ann Morrison Park.
