Ingram steps into county slot

Dave Ingram stands at the front counter in the Malheur County Assessor’s office, which he will lead at the beginning of January. Ingram was appointed Wednesday to replace County Assessor Sharon Clark when she retires.
VALE - He will not begin serving until January, so Dave Ingram, Vale, has a little more than six months to learn his new job as Malheur County Assessor.

Ingram, 46, was appointed to his new position last week by the Malheur County Court. Ingram replaces Sharon Clark, who will retire as county assessor at the end of the year. Ingram will finish out Clark’s term, which expires at the end of 2008, so he will almost immediately be running for election.

Ingram said he has lived in Malheur County all his life, mostly in the Vale area. He is the son of former Malheur County Sheriff Bob Ingram.

“I spent a lot of time in a patrol car getting to know the county and the people,” Ingram said.

He graduated from Vale Union High School and then worked for a local farmer while attending Treasure Valley Community College.

Ingram worked in farming for 10 years and then worked about 10 years at the Bill Elliot Tire Store in Vale.

Then Ingram started his own business.

“I had a video rental business,” he said.

Ingram had four stores with outlets situated in smaller Malheur County communities.

He said he eventually sold the business.

“I felt the time was right for a change,” he said. “Sharon had an opening.”

Ingram said being able to work with people is his biggest asset.

“The job is very interesting to me,” he said.

He said some of the positives of the job include getting around and seeing the new growth, working with people on their turf and working one-on-one with farmers and businesses.

“Being well-informed and getting the right information makes it easier,” he said.

Ingram said he is looking forward to his new job.

“Our office has great staff,” Ingram said. “A lot of years of experience. I think we will continue to have that.”

Presently, the appraisers are working some of the more remote areas of the county, he said. That includes Juntura, Riverside, Westfall, Ironside and Brogan.

“We’re traveling a lot of miles,” he said.

When not on the job, Ingram does have a small piece of property and is raising some cattle.

“I like to be outdoors, fishing and camping,” he said.

His family includes his wife and a son and daughter.
