Glenn L. ‘Bucky’ Howard

Dec. 6, 1919 - March 21, 2007

Payette

Glenn was born Dec. 6, 1919, near Grangeville, Idaho. He passed away March 21, 2007, in Payette.

He was raised and educated in Riggins and the Salmon River area. He was married in 1943 and divorced in 1973. Glenn’s first job at the age of 17 was as a hard rock miner at the Golden Anchor mine near Burgdorf, Idaho.

Glenn spent five years in the infantry during World War II. He first served in Alaska and later participated in 5 major battles in North Africa, Italy and Southern France. He was wounded once. He received several medals of honor during his service.

After serving in World War II, he worked as a carpenter in the Grangeville and Riggins area. He later joined the postal service in Boise. He retired in 1979. After retirement he moved to Payette where he resided until his death.

Glenn remained active in the second-hand, antique and flea market business which was as much a hobby as it was a business to him. He also remained active in a mining venture in Bear Valley, Idaho, that began in his early adult life and carried on until the early ‘90s.

Glenn was a member of Mount Idaho Lodge No. 9, AF&AM Grangeville, The American Legion Post 130, Riggins, and National Association of Letter Carriers.

Glenn was preceded in death by a daughter; two brothers; and a sister.

He is survived by a few first cousins.

Glenn’s optimistic, gentle, kind generous nature and his sense of fun and humor will be missed by those who had the opportunity to know him.

At his request there will be no memorial service. His cremated remains will be scattered on the Salmon River near Riggins by his first cousins once removed, Leanne Ford Gray and Cindy Ford Merill Montgomery.

Leanne and Cindy encourage Glenn’s friends and acquaintances to stop by and share their memories of him Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, 2007, during Glenn’s estate sale which will be held at his home 144 12th Ave. N., Payette.
