Ontario man arrested for money laundering

JOHN DAY - An Ontario man was arrested for laundering money after police located a large sum of cash in the trunk of his rental car Thursday night during a traffic stop near John Day.

Oregon State Police stopped the car, driven by Jose Sanchez Perez, 26, Ontario, around 9 p.m. along U.S. Highway 26 for speeding and failing to maintain a lane, according to a Friday OSP press release.

According to the OSP press release, the rented 2007 Chevrolet Chrysler 300 displayed Montana license plates, and an officer searched the vehicle.

Inside, police located $8,500 in cash hidden in a camera case inside of the trunk, and an additional $2,100 was found on Sanchez.

Police seized all the cash, totaling $10,600, and lodged Perez into the Grant County Jail on a charge of laundering a money instrument, according to the release.

In other public safety news:

— Police did not issue citations in connection to a minor vehicle collision Thursday involving a Nyssa school bus near Portland, Nyssa School District Superintendent Don Grotting said Friday.

The bus was transporting Nyssa High School students from a state band competition when it rear-ended a car around 2:30 p.m. near Lake Oswego. No students were injured, Grotting said.

Grotting said Friday the trooper determined the bus driver did everything possible to avoid the collision, and “no citations will be issued.”

The bus driver was taken to the hospital to undergo a drug and alcohol test around 2:30 a.m. after the bus returned to Nyssa, Grotting said.

The driver has a good driving record, though, and the use of intoxicants is not suspected by the district or police, Grotting said.

“It’s up the district to test, and we thought we’d enter on the side of caution,” Grotting said.

Results should take at least 24 hours and should clear the driver Grotting said.

Grotting said the traffic was stop- and-go and heavily congested during the incident.

Parents were immediately notified of the incident, and a headlight on the bus was replaced and that created a delay, Grotting said.

" Until you work in a prison the general public have no basic knowledge of what fuels a prison. Gangs control everything, except other gangs. The prison politics among the gangs are to out of touch for the public to understand, who does what and why. You can believe that %99 of all sex offenders are getting extorted for money or canteen items by these gangs.
The Aryan Soldiers are a very dangerous group, but a VERY small group.
And yes, there are inmates that just want to do there time and move on. They are not affiliated or extorting anyone, just doing there own time and maintaining clear conduct. "

There are inmates in there who are not violent and just want to do their time quietly and not be affiliated with any "Gangs" while incarcerated.
