Weiser boys share team track title

Fruitland - Weiser’s Justin Webb and Amanda Palmer, Homedale’s David Liddell and Austin Emry, Becca Davis of Fruitland and Kaitlin Crawford of McCall all stood out among the throngs of competitors at the finals of the Snake River Valley Conference district track meet Thursday in Fruitland.
Crawford took top honors in four events, while Webb, Palmer, Liddell, Emry and Davis came away with two victories apiece.
The McCall girls took top honors as a team, finishing with 127 points, while on the boys side, Weiser and Homedale shared the team title, both collecting 96 points.
Webb made his mark in the distance events, taking first in the 1600-meter (5 minutes, 0.67 seconds) and 3200-meter (10:44.59) races.
Liddell stood alone in the 100-and 200-meter dashes, winning the 100 with a time of 10.85 seconds and the 200 with a mark of 32.11. Weiser’s Jake Scharbrough (11.20; 23.67) finished second in each race, while Jake Fabricius (11.49) grabbed third in the 100-meter dash.
Emry’s supremacy at the meet came in the high jump (6-feet, 4 inches) and in the long jump (21-5.25). Payette’s Garrett Brumet (51.77) took first in the 400-meter run, just ahead of Weiser’s Brandon Bergquist (51.83) and Kyle Whatley of Fruitland (52.74). Brumet’s teammate, Kyle Tschirgi, came in first in the 300-meter hurdles (40.52), second in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.30) and third in the long jump (21-2.25). Brad White also claimed a win for the Pirates, taking first in the pole vault with a mark of 11-6.
Weiser’s Trent Winegar added a top finish in the 800-meter run (2:02.77). Wyatt Baguley and Paul Christensen came away with Fruitland’s only victories on the boys side, as Baguley (46-11) won the shot put and Christensen (43-8.5) took the top spot in the triple jump.
Davis controlled the sprint events, taking the top prize in the 100-meter run (12.83) and the 200-meter run (27.15).
Palmer claimed the top honors in the 1600-meter run (5:55.56) and the 3200-meter run (12:20.19), both times edging teammate Becca Wiggins (6:10.40; 12:44.09). Wiggins turned the tables on Palmer in the 800-meter run, taking first with a time of 2:26.25, while Palmer (2:30.00) settled for second. Lauren Aguas and Shelby McNeal notched the Payette girls’ individual titles. Aguas (105-0) claimed first in the discus, while McNeal (9-6) won the pole vault.
