Payette - The Payette City Council approved a change order for the Seventh Avenue North signal at its regular meeting Monday night.
The Idaho Transportation Department awarded a $300,000 grant to the city for the traffic light project, and the city awarded Quality Electric with a contract for about $217,000, according to the City Council packet.
Payette Mayor Doug Henderson said the state wants to add a pedestrian crossing system to the signal, which the original grant will cover.
The additional expenditure will be about $45,000, according to the packet, and the City Council approved a motion for a change order not to exceed $47,000.
The pedestrian crossing system was going to be installed with the completion of the Seventh Avenue North widening project, but ITD determined that more pedestrians use the intersection than originally predicted, according to the packet. The additional work should be completed by mid-June.
