PAYETTE - Defending champions Chad and Todd Points had their hands full at the Scotch Pines two-man best ball tournament Saturday at Scotch Pines Golf Course in Payette.
Many shot their best games to try and knock off the Payette natives, but only John Bideganeta and Travis Gibbens were successful.
And as the story goes — David beat Goliath.
Bideganeta and Gibbens defeated the Points brothers in a sudden death playoff to take first-place honors. Bideganeta and Gibbens led the way with a first gross score of 133, finishing five strokes better than the Points, who carded a first net score of 128.
Jon Edwards and Joe Malay finished with the second best gross score of 134 and Patrick Standley and Stephen Hartnett ended a successful day with the second net score of 136. In the first flight division, the team of Brian Connelly and Eric Fugate carded a first gross score of 138, and there was a tie for first net.
Ron Rettig and Byron Nagaki, along with Larry Broadwater and John De La Veaga, finished up with a first net tally of 122. Mark Suderman and Tom Bernick rounded out the first flight with a score of 140, which was good for second gross score.
Walt Bosse and John Avera took first gross honors in the second flight with a score of 141, and Rich Farber and Mike Bork had the top net score with a combined 124. Steve Young and Brian Sap enjoyed a solid run and end with a second gross score of 143, and the pair of Cliff Masingill and David Arcano finished with second net score of 129.
