Ontario city manager vies for new gig
By Andy Gates - Argus Observer
ONTARIO - Two small cities in Oregon and Colorado share more than names associated with Canada — they also share a connection to the same city manager.
Ontario City Manager Scott Trainor is one of three people who have made it to the final round of consideration for a job as the town manager of Windsor, Colo., according to an April 11 story in the Greeley, Colo., Tribune. Trainor could not be reached Tuesday for comment, and his outgoing message at Ontario City Hall indicated he would be out of town until Tuesday.
Ontario City Councilman John Gaskill said he was unaware that Trainor was applying for the Windsor job.
“I hadn’t heard about it. He is a good city manager. I’m sure there are probably going to be places out there that will have an interest in him,” Gaskill said.
Windsor Human Resources Specialist Teri Billingsley confirmed Tuesday that Trainor is being considered for the job.
A second round of interviews were held Monday night in Windsor, Billingsley said, which followed a first round of interviews two weeks ago.
An executive session with the Windsor Town Board was set for Tuesday night, Billingsley said, where staff may be instructed to begin negotiations. Two other applicants are being considered for the job including a city administrator from Owatonna, Minn., as well as Windsor’s interim town manager, according to the Greeley Tribune story.
The final decision concerning Windsor’s town manager slot probably will not be made public until the end of next week, Billingsley said, after contract negations are finalized. The pay range for the city manager position in Ontario is apparently less than in Windsor.
The annual salary in Windsor, which is negotiated, ranges from around $105,881 to $142,939, Billingsley said.
In Ontario the annual salary ranges from $81,468.36 to $91,537.44, according to the Ontario Non-Represented Employees July 1, 2006 Wage Scale.
The population in Windsor was estimated at 14,874 in 2005, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and estimates for Ontario in 2006 from the Portland State Population Research Center were 11,245 in 2006. |
