Wyden slates Ontario visit

ONTARIO - U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, will hold his annual Malheur County townhall meeting Saturday, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 10 of the Weese Building at Treasure Valley Community College. County residents are invited to attend the open forum and voice their questions and concerns. Wyden’s goal is to hold a town hall meeting in every Oregon county each year. He will also hold meetings in Baker and Grant counties Saturday.

Weiser Valley Friends of the NRA Banquet set

The Weiser Valley Friends of the NRA will host a banquet starting at 6 p.m. April 27 at the Weiser Vendome Center. Social hour with a no-host bar will be at 6 p.m. with dinner starting around 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 with a choice of prime rib or chicken for dinner. Malheur County deputies investigate telephone harassment

Five residents who live in and near Nyssa reported that they received threatening phone calls Wednesday night in Malheur County.

The threats involved guns and rape, Malheur County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Craig Smith said, and the calls were received by residents between the hours of 10:25 p.m. and 11:52 p.m.

Smith said incident reports are not completed, but residents reported being threatened over the phone. Residents who received the calls did not know who was calling them, Smith said, and there have been no arrests in the cases. Many of the residents blocked the numbers of threatening calls from their phones, Smith said. The cases are still under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 473-5126, Smith said.
