OREGON - Court hears challenge of sports redistricting
SALEM (AP) — Some Oregon school districts argued in Oregon Court of Appeals Monday that the realignment of school athletic leagues didn’t just create more travel time for some student athletes, it violated state law. If the school districts win the appeal, the plan created by the Oregon School Activities Association could be sent back to state School Superintendent Susan Castillo for another reclassification.
Two Oregon men say body they found was mutilated
TILLAMOOK (AP) — A body found in a Coast Range recreation area had been mutilated, say two men who came across it as they searched for a campsite. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide and say the victim has not been identified.

Beds filled at hospital, forcing patients to go elsewhere
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Kootenai Medical Center has had to turn away some potential patients because every hospital bed is filled. Other hospitals in the region are also more crowded than usual, officials said.

Top Marine: Iraq buildup may last longer than
contemplated
WASHINGTON (AP) — The military buildup in Iraq is likely to take longer than the American people or Congress want to wait, the Marine commandant said Wednesday.
While not mentioning Congress, Gen. James Conway also told reporters ‘‘it would be very disruptive’’ to commanders and troops in Iraq if there were a sudden move to stop the buildup now and start a withdrawal.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the congressional panel that oversees the Federal Communications Commission accused the agency of overstepping its authority in approving an order meant to create more competition in the cable television industry.
