Fried chicken and birthday cake were served to residents at Well Springs. Cathey was born in Rushville, Neb. She married Hugh Cathey Oct. 31, 1925, and later moved to the Oregon coast. In 1945 they moved to Baker. The couple had five children: Velma, Verla, Sharon, Lloyd and Vern. Cathey became a widow in Dec. 1958. She moved to Ontario in 1995. Cathey is the grandmother of Cathy Iida, Ontario, and Michael Derrick, Ontario. She has one living daughter, Verla Boles, Baker; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
