Bomb threat shuts down area high school

Andy Gates | Argus Observer

PAYETTE

A Payette High School student found a letter written on the school's bathroom wall Monday morning that indicated an explosive device was located in a classroom and would detonate at a designated time.

Nothing suspicious was found, though, after Payette police evacuated students from the school and swept it for explosives between 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., Payette Police Department Det. Dave Freeman said.

Students were kept outside the building until the time extended beyond the hour indicated on the threatening note, Freeman said.

Students were then directed back to their classrooms and the day resumed as scheduled; however, students were given the option to go home early, Freeman said.

In other police news:

- Inmate death case closed. The Snake River Correctional Institution Inmate, Michael A. Dove, 45, who was found dead in his cell Aug. 3, died from a seizure in a natural manner, Oregon State Police Det. Jason Reese said Monday.

Officials had been waiting on the toxicology report from Dove's autopsy, and Reese received the update Monday from the medical examiner, he said.

The case is closed, Reese said.

Dove's death was the fourth inmate death caused by natural causes at SRCI this year.

- Hit-and-run case closed. The case of an alleged hit-and-run incident that occurred Oct. 1 on U.S. Highway 95 between Payette and Fruitland is now closed, Idaho State Police Trooper Sean Klitch said Monday.

Eldon Ford, 25, Ontario, told police he was walking south on the highway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that ran off the road, Klitch said last week.

After a subsequent interview, Ford told police he was not sure if he was “hit” or “blown over” by the vehicle, Klitch said Monday.

The case is closed, Klitch said, and no charges were issued.

- Traffic crash without injuries. Three vehicles were involved in a minor accident with no injuries Friday on the Yturri Beltline at Northwest Fourth Street around 5:45 p.m.

One driver was cited for careless driving in the collision - Dennis Hatfield, 53, Ontario, Oregon State Police Lt. Rich Pileggi said.

Pileggi said it appeared that Hatfield attempted to turn left from the west shoulder of the intersection to traverse the entire roadway in a U-turn.

One vehicle spun across the northbound lane after it struck Hatfield's vehicle, and then struck another vehicle head on, Pileggi said.

The other two drivers involved in the collision were not cited, Pileggi said.

- Two Ontario businesses trespassed. An unknown suspect or suspects illegally entered Japanese Import Motors and The Attic on the 400 block of North Oregon Street between Friday night and Saturday morning, Ontario Police Chief Mike Kee said.

No property from either business was reported missing, Kee said Monday.

However, property was damaged, file cabinets and drawers were sifted through, and personal items had been moved around, Kee said.

Police located a partial footprint, but there are no suspects in the case, Kee said Monday. Anyone with information on the incident(s) is encouraged to contact Ontario police at (541) 889-5312, Kee said.

" mike ivester is a childhood freind of mine. he had a great sense of humor and an open mind when i knew him. he also had a knack for getting into mischief in an effort to feel a sense of adventure, maybe to escape his small town fueled depression and identity crisis... juvenile incarceration shaped his prejudice, and now we've created a monster who we all want to deny. congradulations Oregon! now you have to feed and clothe your dirty little secret for at least half a century. love you mike "

" Until you work in a prison the general public have no basic knowledge of what fuels a prison. Gangs control everything, except other gangs. The prison politics among the gangs are to out of touch for the public to understand, who does what and why. You can believe that %99 of all sex offenders are getting extorted for money or canteen items by these gangs.
The Aryan Soldiers are a very dangerous group, but a VERY small group.
And yes, there are inmates that just want to do there time and move on. They are not affiliated or extorting anyone, just doing there own time and maintaining clear conduct. "

" Hey Watonga,
Since you sound a little ignorant I will let you in on a little secret, not everyone in there is a murderer or rapist! There are inmates in there who are not violent and just want to do their time quietly and not be affiliated with any "Gangs" while incarcerated. So I suggest you pull your head out of the sand and stop putting everyone who is incarcerated in the "scum bag" category! educate yourself a little bit next time you make a posting, otherwise you just look silly. "

" hehe you know whats funny....These inmates constantly hurt or kill other p[eople for no reason...and people like you feel sorry for them. I hope that you continue to feel sorry for them, especially the one who may rape and or kill your daughter, or any other family member you may have. Just continue to feel sorry for them, afterall they dont know what they are doing. "

" Obviously the individual who wrote the first blog (KLL) is in my opinion worse than any homeless person walking the face of this planet. I feel sorry for a person like you. Its clear by your lack of sensitivity for human life that you should step back and take a good look on who really is the scumbag! "

" No big loss, two less scum bags on this planet. "
