Malheur County Circuit Court records reveal a fourth, previously unreported victim, was hit by a fusillade of 22-caliber bullets outside a home on N.W. Fourth St., during a drive-by shooting incident that injured three other Ontario residents June 18.

Initially police reported only three victims - all females - were wounded in the June shooting case.

Police have known about the fourth shooting victim for at least the past few weeks but did not release the information.

The fourth victim of the shooting did not inform authorities of his injuries until long after the incident according to Ontario Police Department Chief Mike Kee.

Kee also said police are unsure exactly how the fourth victim is connected to the incident.

“I don't know that he was targeted, he was injured. We found out way after the fact that he had been injured. He didn't want to tell authorities,” Kee said.

Rene Castro, 19, Ontario, was arrested Thursday in connection to the June 18 shooting on 765 N.W. Fourth St. after he was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury.

Castro was indicted on three counts of second degree assault, three counts of unlawful weapon use and three counts of recklessly endangering another person, court records show.

The fourth victim feared his personal safety could be jeopardized by reporting his injuries, Kee said.

There were seven witnesses cited on the grand jury indictment, which led to Castro's arrest, records show.

OPD waited to arrest Castro until after he had been indicted by the grand jury, which is common in cases built on witness statements, OPD Capt. Mark Alexander said.

The four victims were shot in front of the residence following a dance, and they may not have been the targets of the shooting, Alexander said.

Police are not alleging the male victim knew Castro, Kee said.

“We don't have any indication there was a relationship between those two,” Kee said.

The three female victims, ages 15, 19 and 38, suffered injuries that ranged from moderate to severe. They were all transported to Holy Rosary Medical Center via ambulance and personal vehicle. All have been released from the hospital.

Officials requested names of victims not be released, citing victim safety issues and an ongoing investigation.

Victims and witnesses were named in Wednesday's grand jury indictment.
